About the Order
The earliest records of the working of the Mark Degree in England dates back to 1769. The ceremony, in which a Brother is 'advanced', can be said to comprise two Degrees; the first in which he is acknowledged as a Mark Man, followed by the second where he becomes a Mark Master Mason. The Mark referred to in its title takes its name from the mark or symbol with which the stonemason identified his work and such marks can still be found in many cathedrals and important buildings.
The governing body of the Order is the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons which was founded in 1856. The Grand Master is MW Bro HRH Prince Michael of Kent and the Pro Grand Master is MW Bro John H Prizeman.

Broadley Lodge
Broadley Lodge was founded in Malta on 9th May 2005. It was named after RW Bro Alexander Meyrick Broadley, who was, from 1879, the first District Grand Master of the Mark for the Mediterranean. Although only active in Malta for three years, from 1979 to 1882, Broadley left an indelible mark on both Craft and Mark Masonry on the Island.
The Lodge crest is in the form of a Keystone, a symbol of the Order, on which is depicted not only the Maltese Islands but also a section of the Mediterranean sea and Tunisia in North Africa. This is a reference to Broadley who presided over Mark Lodges in both Malta and Tunis.
The Installation of the new Worshiipful Master takes place at the October meeting while new Mark Master Masons are usually Advanced at the May meeting.
